Hugo Borst, perhaps the most famous caregiver in the Netherlands, shares his personal experience during the Health College 'Hoofdzaken: Leven met Dementie' (Main Issues: Living with Dementia). He recently lost his mother to dementia and wrote two intimate books about the process of her illness. During this guest lecture, Hugo Borst provides a unique perspective on dealing with and living with dementia. Dementia has an enormous impact - on the patient themselves, on their loved ones, on society. As brain cells die, memories and skills fade. What remains is loss. In this second TU Delft Health College, journalist and television presenter Aldith Hunkar takes you along a life with dementia, and along surprising research by TU Delft engineers that helps to alleviate this life or perhaps even, in the long term, helps to prevent dementia. The TU Delft Health College is a recurring free event, in which current topics and developments in the field of healthcare are discussed. The lectures are freely accessible to everyone and are organized by the TU Delft Health Initiative. Renowned doctors, scientists and engineers who conduct research in various branches of healthcare provide insight into their field in an accessible way. They are joined by Dutch celebrities such as André Kuipers, Hugo Borst and Maarten van der Weijden, who have shared their personal experiences and views on healthcare in the past Health Colleges. Keep an eye on the TU Delft Health Initiative website for the next Health College!
