The Karlsplatz station is the largest underground station in the Vienna underground network. Three underground lines meet here: the U1, the U2 and the U4. This makes the question all the more exciting: how was the whole thing actually built back then? In this video I want to show you how extensive the construction work at Karlsplatz was back then and what challenges there were when building the station. The video is also the start of a new video series: together with you I want to look at the construction of the Vienna underground in detail! Here you can find the individual chapters of the video if you want to skip something: 00:00 Introduction Intro 01:50 History of the Vienna subway construction 04:58 General information about the Karlsplatz station 07:03 Preliminary work at Karlsplatz 09:39 Construction of the station building 11:49 Construction of the core building 13:52 Construction of the substation 14:29 Construction of the U1 at Karlsplatz 18:00 Construction of the U2 at Karlsplatz 21:16 Construction of the U4 at Karlsplatz 26:22 Opening of the subway station at Karlsplatz Insertions: Core building with subway: https://orf.at/v2/stories/2424487/242... Here on my main channel, everything revolves around the construction and operation of buildings in practice. These can be my own projects from my work as a civil engineer, but also projects that fascinate me outside of my job. I hope that I can inspire you with the videos for the topic of construction sites. If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to leave a comment or send me an email. Enjoy the videos!
