The Southern Region of Brazil began to be effectively explored by Europeans in the 17th century, when mining activities began to be introduced on the coast of Paraná and with the invasion of the São Paulo bandeirantes into the current territory of Paraná. The news of the existence of silver in the region led to new settlements being established further and further south, and the Portuguese's intention to extend the territory of the Portuguese colony in South America to the Rio da Prata led to the founding of the Colony of Sacramento on the north bank of the river in 1680. From that moment on, a dispute was triggered between the Portuguese and the Spanish over this region, which ended with the current established boundaries. In this video, we will understand how this entire process happened, up until the definition of the current territorial boundaries of the Southern Region of Brazil.
