Jobs, salaries and locations are at stake: The largest employer in Germany is in crisis and has to save money. Around 70 people from Volkswagen and the IG Metall union are negotiating in Hanover about the future of Volkswagen employees and entire locations in Germany. The fifth round of negotiations on a new VW collective agreement between IG Metall and the VW Group has been underway for several days. At the beginning of September 2024, Volkswagen terminated several collective agreements with IG Metall. This means that redundancies and plant closures are possible from June 30, 2025. Volkswagen justifies the decision with "current economic challenges". The employee representatives want to prevent this. Both sides had expressed the desire to agree on a new collective agreement before Christmas. ZDFheute live is broadcasting the press conference with the results of the current round of negotiations. How will VW's savings targets be achieved in the future? Will VW plants be closed? What prospects are there for VW employees in Germany? ZDFheute live speaks with Beatrix Keim from the Center for Automotive Research and with ZDF correspondent Peter Kunz from the ZDF studio in Hanover. #vw #economy #tarif 00:00 Intro 00:33 Demands from VW and IG Metall 01:18 ZDF reporter Peter Kunz from Hanover 03:32 VW locations and employment figures 10:30 Beatrix Keim from the Center for Automotive Research 18:21 IG Metall press conference 39:41 Beatrix Keim from the Center for Automotive Research to answer your questions 43:40 Statement from Thomas Schäfer, CEO of the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand 44:58 Beatrix Keim from the Center for Automotive Research to answer your questions ----- Here on ZDFheute News you can find out what is happening in the world and what concerns us all: We provide insight into the world of news, explain the background and respond to social debates.
