How to Trigger an Off-Camera Flash Without a Radio Transmitter In this video you will learn how to trigger your flash off-camera without using a radio transmitter. This is the strobist method, where your camera's internal flash acts as a controller to trigger your external flash in remote mode, or optical slave, completely wirelessly. With your flash in optical slave mode, the pop-up flash on your Canon camera acts as a controller. To do this, access flash control in your Canon camera's menu, then the 'Internal flash settings' option. Activate 'Wireless function' in the option, where the drawing of a single external flash appears. In 'flash mode' select whether you want to control in manual or TTL. Make sure the camera and the external flash are on the same channel. In manual mode you set the trigger rate and in TTL mode the exposure compensation. You can control up to two groups of flashes (A and B). To trigger the Godox TT685C flash using another flash or camera of a different brand, set your flash to manual mode and activate the photocell using the 'S1/S2' function on your flash's LCD. In S1 mode, it will trigger from any flash. In S2 mode, it will ignore the TTL pre-flash (if you are using it) and will fire immediately afterwards. However, in this case, you will not have control over the triggering rate remotely, having to adjust the rate directly on the flash's LCD. In any case, it is important that you rotate the flash head so that the sensor is always facing the camera in order to synchronize. This is because the flash works using an infrared signal, which is present in sunlight and can cause interference with the signal. In an outdoor environment, make sure that sunlight is not shining on your flash's photocell so that it can fire. It will not work with cell phone light because cell phones do not have a strobe light, they are just a very strong LED, but they do not have enough intensity to activate the photocell. And one last tip: the Godox TT685 flash also works as a radio controller. For the price of an X1 transmitter you can buy a second flash and use one as a controller on the camera's hot shoe and the other as a slave.
