Welcome to Cooking with Jop! In this video I share a delicious recipe for *zuurvlees*, a classic dish from, yes, Limburg cuisine! This dish is perfect with fries. Follow the step-by-step instructions and enjoy a delicious meal full of flavor and with a pinch of salt! Ingredients: 1 kilo beef (short ribs or blade steak) salt and pepper 5 onions 2 cloves of garlic 50 grams of butter dash of sunflower oil 10 juniper berries 8 cloves 5 bay leaves 150 ml white wine vinegar bottle of brown beer 1-2 teaspoons of speculaas spices 4 generous tablespoons of apple syrup 3 slices of gingerbread Instructions: Step 1 Cut 1 kilo beef (short ribs or blade steak) into fairly large pieces and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Step 2 Coarsely chop 5 onions and 2 cloves of garlic. Step 3 Heat 50 grams of butter and a dash of sunflower oil in a frying pan and brown the pieces of meat on all sides. Do this in slightly smaller portions, scoop out the meat and set aside Step 4 Fry the onions and garlic in the same frying pan Step 5 Add 10 juniper berries, 8 cloves and 5 bay leaves and fry briefly Step 6 Deglaze with 150 ml white wine vinegar and a bottle of brown beer. Add 1-2 teaspoons of speculaas spices Step 7 Put the contents of the frying pan and the meat together in a large pan and add 4 generous tablespoons of apple syrup. Bring to the boil while stirring, put the lid on the pan and put in the oven for approx. 3 hours at 110 degrees (or until the meat is done) Step 8 Add 3 slices of gingerbread to the sauce and stir until it has dissolved and the desired thickness has been reached. If necessary, let it reduce for a while if it is too thin or add another slice of gingerbread Serve with (Flemish) fries or with mashed potatoes and red cabbage (and apple sauce) Cooking is fun. Indonesian food is delicious. Other cuisines are also interesting. And the nice thing is: it doesn't have to be difficult to make it yourself, you just have to know how. And that's what I try to show in this video channel: how you, even as a Dutch person, can create those authentic flavors with the things you have in your kitchen and with ingredients that are easily available in the Netherlands! It's not magic. I'll show you in clear, simple steps how you can achieve this yourself. And you'll be amazed by the result!
