Salah Khashoggi is an expert in investment and financial management for more than fifteen years. He founded Tamra Capital with the aim of facilitating investment for everyone, and he is the author of many articles in the financial field. Khashoggi began his talk by refuting the dream of getting rid of banks, as he believes in the necessity of their existence and the need for development. He predicts that their role will change to take over financing companies and major projects such as “Neom” and “Qiddiya”, while “financial technology” (Fintech) companies will provide services to the individual sector. He also believes that the merger of banks will enhance a larger space for lending and reduce costs, thus more investment opportunities and greater benefit for companies. Khashoggi stresses our need for specialized banks that focus their work on a specific field, unlike comprehensive banks that provide all services to their customers from the individual sector to large projects. Khashoggi then referred to a statistic that indicates that the percentage of individual savings in Saudi Arabia from their income before the pandemic reached only 1.6%, which makes us one of the least saving peoples in the world. This is due to many reasons such as the high consumer culture and dependency; in order for a person to plan properly, income should be divided into 50% to cover basic needs such as housing, education, etc., and 30% for luxuries, and 20% of the salary should be saved in a diversified and balanced portfolio. His talk also included the role of cryptocurrencies, and the technologies that will shape the modern world, meaning blockchain technology, genetic science, etc., as well as what precautions an individual should take to combat these changes and their resulting consequences.
