Cucumbers are most often grown flat, sowing or planting seedlings every 15-20 cm. The cold gardeners are behind us, so we can now sow cucumbers directly into the ground or plant their seedlings. Just remember that cucumbers, like all cucurbits, like warmth, so you need to harden them off well before planting the seedlings. The cucumber bed should be well prepared in autumn. I mulched mine with composted manure. Cucumbers like warm soil, which is why they grow well in raised beds. During cultivation, I will fertilize them with nettle slurry and comfrey slurry. To start, I fed them with granulated manure. I covered the bed with spring agrotextile, protecting the young seedlings from the cold and wind. Cucumbers do not tolerate wind. They grow poorly and fruit less well, which is why hedges are such an important element of my garden.
