How to fertilize fruit trees is a key aspect for the success of the process. If the fertilizer is nitrate-based, care must be taken to avoid deep percolation and contamination of the aquifers. If the fertilizer is urea, care must be taken to ensure that the soil is moist so that volatilization does not occur. There are fertilizers such as potassium sulfate that can be used in dry soil. If fertilization is applied and the plant is in the fruit setting phase, the fruit may fall due to stress caused by a saline shock. Adequate humidity is important since the roots absorb the fertilizers that are dissolved in the soil solution. In dry soil, the fertilizers are absorbed by the mineral fraction and in soil with excess water, the roots are drowned, they cannot breathe and cannot absorb the nutrients in what is known as active absorption. In hillside soils, surface runoff must be avoided by building microterraces and depositing the fertilizer in that place.
