The Battle of Mišar was fought between the Serbian insurgent army under the command of Karađorđe and the Turkish army on the hill of Mišar near Šabac in 1806. This battle is one of the greatest victories of the Serbian insurgents during the First Serbian Uprising. It had unfathomable consequences for the Serbian consciousness, in which the idea of freedom finally triumphed. The Serbian desire for liberation and the creation of an independent state became unstoppable after that. To this day, this battle is deeply etched in the Serbian national identity as a historical lesson on how to fight for freedom. In addition to the enormous importance for the Serbian people, the Battle of Mišar had an impact on the entire Balkans and on all enslaved Christian peoples in the Ottoman Empire. The Serbian leader became a symbol of heroism and a symbol of freedom.
