@juangangel Craquelure is a common deterioration phenomenon in old paintings. It consists of the appearance of cracks, which in the most serious cases can fragment the paint layer and lead to its detachment. This sign of aging is often imitated in furniture and paintings to give them an antique appearance. Characteristics[edit] Within the finishes it is one of the most common, practical and easy to perform. The fine cracks that often form on the surface of old oil paintings, antique pottery and furniture worn by the passage of time are reproduced. Craquelure occurs naturally by the gradual and uneven contraction of the different layers of paint. By placing a layer of synthetic base (slow drying) and another on top of water-based paint (fast drying) we will obtain this effect. The synthetic paint dries slowly generating surface tensions over a longer period of time; for this reason, the upper layer of paint, which is acrylic and dries quickly, cracks following the movements of the tensions of the base paint. To age a surface we can use a homemade preparation or products specially made to achieve this effect: 'crackling agents'. The optimal result of these depends on following the specifications of each manufacturer to the letter. They are, in some cases, products very sensitive to heat and air currents, which modify the size of the cracks. One-component crackling agents[edit] They are generally applied between two contrasting colors, for example: Natural-colored acrylic base / dry. Application of crackling varnish trying not to overlap material. Application of dark acrylic with a brush or sponge and let it dry. The drying process can be accelerated by mechanical means with warm heat on the work at a distance of no less than 25 cm. In homemade form, one-component crackling agents can be replaced by the effect produced by a generous layer of vinyl glue. In both cases, the direction of the brush strokes applied to the intermediate layer will define the direction of the cracks. Source:https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Craquelado Juan Gonzalo Angel
