We decided to show all the connection details of these components in our tip of the week. The photoelectric relay has an internal light-sensitive component that is used to inform the circuit of the level of brightness around the device. Depending on the environmental condition, the connected lighting is automatically turned on or off without the need for human intervention. Many people call this device a “photocell”, but by definition a photocell would be a device like a solar panel, which works as a source of energy. The name photoelectric relay is more appropriate, since inside the component there is a relay activated by different light intensities. There are several models and sizes on the market. The photocell can be connected directly to the lamp, but if you have a 220 power supply with two phases, the best way would be to use a contactor to prevent one of these phases from being connected directly to the lamp. Using the contactor is very simple, every time the photocell activates it will power the contactor coil that will dock and power the lamp or set of lamps. That was our tip of the week.
