How to calculate circuit breakers and cables for residential air conditioning? This may be one of your doubts as well. Many electricians have this doubt, mainly because of the cooling power in BTUs, and what should be the correct power to use in the calculations? We must know that air conditioning has two different powers: one is the cooling power, which is presented in BTUs (British thermal units) and the other is the electrical power, expressed in Watts, as we are used to in electricity. However, when we are going to do the calculations, we cannot use the power in BTUs to calculate the electrical current of the air conditioning. We must also convert this power from BTUs to Watts and from there, with an energy efficiency factor, calculate the electrical power of the device. And it is with the nominal current that we can calculate the circuit breakers and cables for residential air conditioning. This dimensioning of the cable and circuit breaker of the air conditioning is very simple, but we must respect some details of the NBR 5410 standard regarding the data used in the calculations. How to size the circuit breaker and cables for a residential or industrial air conditioner must always follow the recommendations of Brazilian standards and since we are sizing for a residence, we use NBR 5410 to size the cable for this electrical installation. So guys, let's learn more about how to calculate circuit breakers and cables for residential air conditioning in this video.
