Then their skins and their hearts soften at the remembrance of Allah. That is the guidance of Allah; He guides thereby whom He wills. And he whom Allah sends astray - for him there is no guide.) (Az-Zumar: 23). Among the popular verses is the saying of one of the poets: The tongue of a young man is half and half his heart **** So nothing remains but the image of flesh and blood. This poet divides the human being equally between his tongue and his mind, while flesh and blood are equal in all. Therefore, the ancients, including politicians, wise men, scholars, writers and educators, cared about this skill and made it a title for a man’s chivalry, the beauty of his appearance, and the goodness of his company. Yunus bin Habib said: “There is no chivalry for the weak, nor is there beauty for the deficient in eloquence, even if he scratched the sky with his nose.” They made the tongue an indication of the nature of the character, saying: “A person is hidden under his tongue.” They made beauty and elegance for eloquence, so one of the poets said: It is enough of a defect for a person to see him **** He has a face but no tongue And the beauty of men is not an adornment for them **** If beauty does not please eloquence.
