In 2024, the year in which most people were ever allowed to vote, the world has not become more democratic. On the contrary: according to two international research institutes that monitor the state of democracy worldwide, most of the world is actually moving towards an autocracy, in which one person has all the power. In this video, we assume elections in 64 countries. This is also the number used by research organization IDEA. We have assumed national elections (not local or regional). Furthermore, the European elections have not been included. There are two more elections coming up this year: on December 29 in Chad and the Czech Republic.
