Known as the last film of John Wayne, one of the most beloved American movie stars, this film is based on the novel of the same name from 1975. Along with 'The Searchers' and 'The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance', it is considered one of his representative western films. It is a film in which John Wayne, who appeared in numerous western films, literally expressed the last days of his life, which were like his own films, through a film. Perhaps because of this, the films he had appeared in so far are recalled like the past of Books in the intro at the beginning of the film. An interesting point is that Ron Howard, who appeared as Gillum, debuted as a director in his 20s after this film and established himself as a representative Hollywood director who created numerous masterpieces such as 'Far and Away', 'Backwaters', 'Apollo 13', 'Ransom', 'A Beautiful Mind', and 'The Da Vinci Code'.
