▌How the Brain Thinks Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Aydın February 5, 2022▐ Within the scope of culture and art activities organized by the Turkish Touring and Automobile Association, conferences with guest participation of academicians and experts in their fields continue. Who is Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Aydın? İsmail Hakkı Aydın was born on February 11, 1954 in Trabzon. He completed his primary school in Maçka and his secondary and high school education in Trabzon. After graduating from Atatürk University Faculty of Medicine, he started working as an assistant in the Department of Brain Surgery. After continuing his specialization in the Department of Neurosurgery at Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine, he completed his Brain Surgery Specialization Thesis and microneurosurgery studies with Prof. Dr. Mahmut Gazi Yaşargil at the Neurosurgery Clinic of the University of Zürich. He worked as an instructor at the Zürich Microneurosurgery Research Center and also conducted research in the fields of cerebrovascular microsurgery. He returned to Turkey at the end of 1984 and was appointed as the head of the Neurosurgery Department at Atatürk University Faculty of Medicine. In 1985, he established the “Remote Simultaneous Monitoring and Recording System for Surgeries” and the Microneurosurgery Research Laboratory, the first of its kind in Turkey. In 1988, he developed a new surgical technique used in cerebrovascular occlusion operations, which was the first in the world to be included in the literature under his own name, and was awarded the TÜBİTAK award in 1990 by the then president. He was awarded the title of International Fellow and FCNS by the Congress of Neurological Surgeons in the USA in 1991 for his international research and contributions to the surgical treatment of cerebral hemorrhages and aneurysms. The same year, Dr. Aydın was also awarded by the rectorate and dean's office, and he won the Turkish Neurosurgical Research Award in 1992. Again in the same year, he was elected to the European Stroke Science Council. He was given the International Scientist and FICA Honors by the American Stroke Council. He received the USA Neurosurgery Continuing Medical Education Credit Awards in 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1995. Additionally, in 1993, in addition to his memberships in the Brain Tumor Council, the Cerebrovascular Surgery Section, and many other scientific and administrative boards in the USA, he was elected to the International Board of Directors of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, becoming the first Turkish and the first Muslim scientist to join this board. Having published over 200 scientific studies internationally, both domestic and foreign, Prof. Dr. To date, Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Aydın has trained many doctors, neurosurgeons, associate professors and professors and has been cited as a resource many times by the world's leading scientists in both books and articles abroad and the surgical techniques he developed have been included in classic books. Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Aydın, who has published scientific articles on his literary and artistic aspects and, in the expression of literary authorities, uses the syllabic meter as well as the aruz meter in his unique poetry and modern rubai form, has over 100 lyrics by Dr. Yılmaz Karakoyunlu, Mustafa Fatih Salgar, Osman Erol Ünal, Amir Ateş, Salih Suphi Soner, Osman Nuri Özpekel, Prof. Dr. Gülçin Yahya Kaçar, Mehmet Kemiksiz, Yeşim Altınel Çoban, Dr. Adnan Çoban, Bekir Ünlüataer, Sebahattin Çevik, Murat Türkmen, Nurullah Ejder, Ahmet Ünal, Hüseyin Erbay, Dilber Kılıçaslan, Hüseyin Samet Talaş, Prof. Composed by Dr. Kubilay Kolukırık, Şaban Keşkeş, Cüneyt Bayraktar and Salih Bora, it has taken its place in the music world and TRT repertoires.
