If you’ve left your phone on airplane mode in the last few days, you still don’t know that this is the jargon used in the informal stock market by the “hype beasts” — the hype beasts — who went viral on an online video channel showing how many thousands, or “k”, of dollars, or “dol”, they paid for their look. Lawyer Felipe Escudero, 27, is behind the videos “Quanto Custa o Outfit?”, a Brazilian version of an American YouTube channel, in which he talks to fashionistas from Rio and São Paulo at fashion fairs and events. Escudero and his girlfriend, Larissa Kora, 21, advise Gian Tancredo, 12. The teenager appears dancing in one of the videos that were taken down, wearing Supreme and Off-White brands. With the support of his parents, he started in the business at age 11, when he bought a pair of sneakers for R$700 and sold them for R$900. In addition to the help from his family, he is able to buy new pieces with the profits from these sales. A fashion connoisseur, he also has Gucci and Louis Vuitton on the racks. “My friends don’t usually dress like this, and thanks to me, they are learning about this culture.
