Twitter @juangangel In this chapter of field chores we will be in the municipality of Hispania in the department of Antioquia where we will be talking about the work that has been done in this important livestock industry that is the breeding of Simmental cattle and the crosses with the Zebu breeds, especially with the Gyr breed, to show Colombia and the world that it is possible to do important genetic work focused on dairy farming in the low tropics. Genetic improvement is the science of increasing productivity, resistance to the environment and to the diseases present in it, generating a better adaptation of domestic animal and plant species or the beauty and quality of their products, through modifications of the genotype (the genetic constitution) of the individuals. It can also be understood as a discipline that manages genetic resources of species with current or potential economic interest through selection and improvement of desired characteristics, with the aim of increasing and stabilizing higher levels of production and adaptability in a group of offspring and, at the same time, ensuring the long-term conservation of existing population genetic variability and its biodiversity.
