The Elko engine, also known as the Elsbett oil engine, is a revolutionary engine designed by German engineer Ludwig Elsbett. It had a great impact in the 70s and 80s and was even tested in Brazil. The engine created by Elsbett was powered by diesel, but it could burn any type of oil, even cooking oil without damaging the engine. Another interesting feature is that it does not use a radiator, since lubricating oil alone is enough. It also had direct injection despite having a low displacement (1.5), something that was considered impossible until its official presentation in 1973. But with so many qualities, why did this engine not become popular even after two oil crises?
