Music influences the human brain, tapping directly into our emotions. From the womb onwards, it moves us deeply and drives us to achieve peak performance, helping us to live healthier and happier lives. Neuroscientists such as Peter Vuust and Stefan Kölsch are investigating the secret of rhythms and melodies, studying the function and development of our brains. Kölsch from the University of Bergen in Norway says that music helps our body to activate our natural healing power, perhaps even better than many drugs. While cooking, we often hum along to songs on the radio and follow the rhythm when a particularly lively song comes on. Peter Vuust from the Music in the Brain Institute in Aarhus, Denmark, has analysed this phenomenon and knows why we can't sit still when certain songs are playing. When exercising, our favourite songs can help us to achieve high performance. Tom Fritz from the Max Planck Institute in Leipzig discovered that we can perform even better if we create music ourselves during training. This documentary examines the positive influence music has on us, from our earliest childhood to our old age. #dwdocumentary #documentary #music ـــــ DW Documentary brings you information beyond the headlines.
