Also check out my test of the new 2020 Africa Twin 1100: http://bit.ly/AfricaVeSpanelsku It's been 13 long years since the successor to the excellent 750 Africa Twin was announced. Honda took its time to really fine-tune the bike for the very competitive market of mid-sized to large adventure bikes. I took a detailed look at the 2017 Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin here in the Canary Islands. Unfortunately, it's not the slightly improved 2018 model (modified exhaust tip, electronic throttle and associated riding modes, changed dashboard display, ...) but I think the test will still be useful for anyone looking for a used bike (2016 or 2017 model) or a new bike, because most things have remained the same - and that's a good thing. If the test is too long for you, choose a specific passage you want to learn more about: 00:50 Introduction, Africa Twin development, design 01:59 Engine and its architecture 02:56 Engine and performance, torque 04:10 Exhaust tailpipe, its design, sound and weight 04:49 Suspension, wheels, brakes 06:37 Ergonomics, handling, comfort 08:11 Operating economy, accessories, service intervals 08:55 Road test ride 14:24 Off-road riding impressions 18:21 Conclusion The motorcycle was lent to me for the test by Ondra Vymětalík, who runs a motorbike rental shop in Gran Canaria and currently has the Africa there (link to his company: http://canaryride.com/).
