Gospel Reading: Luke 19:11-28 Jesus told a parable because he was near Jerusalem and people thought that the kingdom of God was going to appear immediately. He said: “A certain nobleman went to a far country to become king and then return. He called ten of his servants and gave them ten minas of gold, saying, ‘Do business until I come back. ’ But his fellow citizens hated him and sent a message after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to reign over us. ’ When he returned from becoming king, he summoned the servants to whom he had given the money to him in order to find out how much each one had earned. The first one came and said, ‘Master, your mina has earned ten. ’ The man said to him, ‘Well done, good servant! Since you have been faithful in a small matter, be the ruler of ten cities. ’ The second came and said, “Master, your mina has yielded five.” To him he said, “Then you go over five cities.” The other came and said, “Master, here is your mina. I kept it hidden in a handkerchief, for I was afraid, because you are a hard man, taking out what you have not laid down and reaping what you have not sown.” He said to him, “Out of your own mouth I judge you, you wicked servant. So you knew that I am hard, taking out what I have not laid down and reaping what I have not sown? So why did you not put my money in the bank? When I came back, I would have collected it with interest.” Then he said to those standing by, “Take the mina from this man and give it to the one who has ten minas.” They said to him, “Master, he already has ten minas.” I tell you, “Whoever has, more will be given, but whoever has nothing, even what he has will be taken from him. And as for these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slaughter them before me. ” After saying this, he went ahead of them, going up to Jerusalem.
