Dominique is convinced that children learn more and better at home than at school. As a radical advocate of free learning, she refuses to send her eight-year-old son to school - and risks severe punishment in Germany for doing so. Around 1,000 children in Germany are "free learners". They do not learn at school, but at home. Unlike in other European countries, however, free learning is not permitted in Germany. Anyone who teaches their children at home nevertheless risks disputes with the authorities and even loss of custody.
