This is What You Rarely See! Traditional House of the Dani Tribe of Papua Hello everyone, how are you? Back again with Rizki Abadi In this video we will take a house tour to the traditional house of the Dani Tribe, in Wamena, Papua Yes, this time we will go to Mr. Melius' house in the Baliem Valley area, Papua. The traditional house that we generally call Honai actually has various unique features, you know! Such as its capacity which can accommodate up to 10-15 people in it, and the materials and materials used to make it are 100% natural resources. The traditional house or Honai which is round and has a low roof, is designed to avoid cold weather due to strong winds. It is built tightly to the ground with a base (floor) directly on the ground and then covered with dry grass (straw). Honai can usually last before being replaced for 5 to 12 months. Building a honai is the job of the Dani men and they do the job together. This tradition still survives today. The traditional Honai house building also consists of 2 types, namely Honai for men, and Honai for women which is also called Ebe'ai. Although the shape of the Honai house is round and so tiny, so that we cannot stand in it. The distance from the surface of the house to the ceiling is only about 1 meter. Inside the Honai there is a fireplace located right in the middle. The thatched roof and wooden walls of the Honai house actually bring cool air into the Honai. If the air feels too cold, the entire house will be warmed by the smoke from the fireplace.
