Every year Jesus’ parents went up to Jerusalem for the Passover. When Jesus was twelve years old, they also went up according to the custom of the feast. When the feast was over, they returned home. But the child Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem without his parents knowing it. Thinking that he was in the company of the travelers, they went a day’s journey and began to search among their relatives and acquaintances. When they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem to look for him there. After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. All who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. When his parents saw him, they were amazed. His mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us this way? Behold, your father and I have been looking for you with great sorrow.” He said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be about my Father’s business?” But they did not understand what he meant. Then he returned with them to Nazareth and was obedient to them. His mother kept all his words in her heart. And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man. Luke 2:41-52 December 29, 2024 – Sunday, The Holy Family: Jesus, Mary and Joseph
