"There is no Christian blood, no Jewish blood, no Muslim blood. There is only human blood!" This is the world view that Margot Friedländer, now 100 years old, is trying to convey to pupils in German schools. She is one of the last contemporary witnesses of the Second World War and the tragic Holocaust that came with it. On Markus Lanz, she tells her experiences of the last days of her imprisonment in the Theresienstadt concentration camp before the Second World War was ended by the Allied forces. It was only in the last few days that the Jews imprisoned there realized what really happened in the extermination camps such as Auschwitz. Until then, knowledge of the mass murder of the Jews had been a big secret. In the last few days, the National Socialists had tried to hide their atrocities from the Soviet troops by deporting the prisoners in Auschwitz to Theresienstadt. "You can never forget how terrible these people were when they arrived there." The survivors from Auschwitz arrived, some of them only in rags, and now the prisoners in Theresienstadt also realized what fate awaited them. Suffering and grief were a daily companion. But in this suffering she had also met her husband, with whom she emigrated to the USA after the end of the Second World War. Shared suffering enabled the two to build a future in which there was not always love, but a deep friendship bound them forever. The young students are all the more surprised that Margot Friedländer, with her terrible stories, had decided to move back to Berlin. "I was at home when I came to Berlin," she explains her love for her hometown, which she had not seen for such a long time. Along with her move came her desire to tell the children her stories and to warn them about people who represented ideologies such as the National Socialists. "I don't want any of you to experience something like that!"
