For the fifth episode of Holland Vaart we moor in Elburg at the Botterwerf. We have been invited to go sailing with the restored Elburg 15. It is a beautiful evening and there is a lovely breeze when skipper Gerrit Veldman starts the engine. As we sail out of the harbour the sails are hoisted and this requires a lot of muscle power. And while sailing it is not much different. Sailing with a botter is hard work, but a great experience. Back in Elburg we get a tour of the shipyard where the next botter is being restored. From the botter yard it is a short walk to the historic rope-making shop of the Deetman brothers. The company has been around since 1650. WillemJoost Deetman is the seventh generation and is still busy every day, making rope rings for sloops and motorboats, among other things. This is the last episode of Holland Vaart, recorded in the summer of 2023. We visited the Westeinderplassen, Zeeland and sailed via Almere-Haven to Kampen.
