HOLIDAY RESORT UP TO 1 METER UNDER WATER AFTER CONTINUOUS RAIN - THW AND FIRE BRIGADE IN MAJOR OPERATION Location: Bedekaspel, municipality of Südbrookmerland, district of Aurich First came the wind, then the storm surge and now the flood. Fire brigade and THW have been working almost non-stop throughout northern Germany for days now to prevent damage to their fellow citizens. Since Saturday evening, it has rained heavily in many places. 50 litres or more of rain have fallen in many places, so that the already saturated streams and rivers are now flooded. In the district of Aurich, the floods flowed mainly into the "Great Sea", which has reached its capacity. The result: the water backs up, overflows the banks and looks for other ways. And one of these led to a holiday resort in Südbrookmerland. The houses at lower levels are particularly threatened by the water, some are already several centimetres deep in the floodwaters. The fire brigade and THW have been filling sandbags non-stop since the afternoon and trying to pump the water back into its original bed. Nevertheless, the water levels continue to rise. In the evening, additional forces were called in to provide support with large pumps. Helpers from the entire Aurich district are now in action. A further 15,000 sandbags have also been requested. A THW spokesman said in the evening: "The situation is very tense."
