We are not talking about coronavirus and covid but about the HIV virus that 40 years ago represented a real challenge for the scientific community and that today can be fought with great success thanks to powerful drugs with a high genetic barrier capable of controlling viral replication. However, there is a group of people with HIV who develop resistance to drugs, who cannot control viremia, who have switched from one therapy to another without ever having a complete response. The causes of these failures are various, and today it is finally possible to offer them new therapeutic options that in studies have demonstrated great efficacy even in heavily pre-treated patients, the so-called HTE patients, heavily treatment experienced. An accurate and detailed picture of this category of patients is provided by the analysis of the data from the Icon Cohort, a valuable analysis for building increasingly personalized and effective treatment paths. We talked about it with Prof. Sergio Lo Caputo, AOU Policlinico di Foggia. Among the questions: and the most salient evidence that emerged from the analysis of the data from the Icon Cohort. Today, new therapeutic options are available that can offer answers even to heavily pre-treated patients, how important is this and how does it change the therapeutic scenario? the data on the emotional and psychological state of patients already tried by many therapeutic failures
