It was October 30, 1991. A diplomatic miracle happened in Madrid. The Israeli prime minister, representatives of the Palestinians, and the Arab states of the Middle East sat at the same table. The conference was chaired by the American and Soviet presidents. It seemed as if one of the most difficult international problems was beginning to be solved.
