Vladimir Lenin is a pivotal figure in modern history, having contributed significantly to shaping the contemporary world through his revolutionary ideas and political actions that led to the founding of the Soviet Union and changed the historical course of many countries. Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov, known as Lenin, was born on April 22, 1870, in the Russian city of Simbirsk. His father was a school principal and had a great influence on his early political thinking. Lenin was also influenced by the execution of his brother Alexander, who had attempted to assassinate the Tsar, which increased his belief in revolutionary action. In 1870, Lenin was forced to leave Russia due to his revolutionary activity, where he spent several years in exile before returning to his country in 1917 to lead the Bolshevik Revolution, which changed the course of Russian and world history. The Bolshevik Revolution, which occurred in October 1917, is considered a decisive turning point in world history, as Lenin led the Bolshevik Party to overthrow the Provisional Government that had been formed after the overthrow of Tsar Nicholas II in March of the same year. Lenin relied on Marx’s ideas to develop his own theory known as Leninism, which combines Marxism and Russian Reality After the success of the revolution, Lenin established the Soviet government, which was based on the principle of the dictatorship of the proletariat, where power was transferred to the soviets, which are the workers' and peasants' councils. This led to the implementation of radical economic and social policies aimed at achieving socialism. Lenin's writings had a great impact on revolutionary thought in the world, as he provided deep analyses of imperialism, social classes, and the role of the revolutionary party in leading the working class towards revolution. His books, such as What is to Be Done and Left Communism, are among the most important references in communist thought. Lenin also played a prominent role in developing the concept of the revolutionary party, as he believed that the party should be the vanguard of the working class and lead it towards revolution. This concept later became an essential part of communist thought. Lenin died on January 21, 1924, but his political legacy continued to influence many revolutionary movements around the world. Many considered him a symbol of the struggle against colonialism and social injustice. After his death, Joseph Stalin took over the leadership of the Soviet Communist Party and continued to implement Lenin's policies, but in a more severe manner, which led to radical changes in the nature of the Soviet system. Many leftist movements criticized him. Later, Stalin, due to his deviation from Leninist principles, Lenin's name is still repeated in political and intellectual circles to this day, as discussions about his ideas and practices are renewed in different contexts. With the increasing challenges facing global capitalism and the emergence of new leftist movements in many countries, interest in Lenin's personality and ideas has returned in Ukraine, for example. Lenin still represents a complex historical symbol, as some use him as a symbol of the Soviet Union, while others consider him a symbol of the injustice and oppression they suffered during that period. Vladimir Lenin represents a prominent historical figure that cannot be ignored in the study of modern history. He established a new political and social system that influenced many countries and became a symbol of workers' revolutions around the world. His ideas and practices still provoke controversy and discussions to this day, reflecting the depth of his influence on history and global politics.
