The European Union, also known by the abbreviation EU, is a supranational economic and political organization currently composed of 27 member states. But why was it born and how has it evolved over time? The reasons for its origin are to be found in the results of the Second World War. At the end of the conflict, the six founding countries - Italy, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg - showed a willingness to cooperate starting from the economic dimension. Great impetus to their union was given by the United States of America, eager to create a block of European countries that would distance themselves from the Soviet Union and keep Germany under control.
