The video gives an overview of German warmblood breeding before 1939. The 6-part film provides information about the history of German horse breeding and shows noble Trakehners, athletic Holsteiners, heavy East Frisians and Oldenburgers and muscular Hanoverians. We see farmers selling their foals at horse markets, large herds of broodmares on the pasture, mare and foal shows, riding and driving schools and, again and again, licensing. It is about riding, show jumping and racing horses, but above all about working horses that have to be resilient. The film comes to life through its historical images and historical facts. The video is a historical document of the time. The recordings for this video were all made in the 1930s, during the period of the Nazi seizure of power. Some of the terms used, the feel of the narrator's text and the imagery may remind some people of the Nazi terminology that was common at the time. We are publishing this video anyway because it packs valuable background knowledge and facts about German horse breeding and the five breeding areas of the time into an exciting story.
