About the fifth part: we write 1802. Lieutenant Horatio Hornblower is on his way to a secret destination aboard Her Majesty's frigate Fame. The ship's commander is Captain Sawyer, a war hero who is, however, a shadow of his former self. The events of the past have taken their toll on him, they have crushed him nervously. But neither she nor Dr. Clive, her doctor, will admit this. However, Captain Sawyer - there is nothing to say about this - is completely unfit for the position of commander. He gives contradictory instructions to the crew, allows reduced duty and double rations of rum, punishes without reason, and smells an enemy in everyone. There is more and more confusion on the ship. Hornblower and his fellow officers would unite for the sake of order, but the commander's word cannot be contradicted, as it is considered treason. A court-martial and the gallows await the traitorous officer...
