Hike near 92342 Freystadt in the Neumarkt district in Upper Palatinate with approx. 9.2 km, approx. 120 m elevation gain and doable in approx. 2:30 hours of walking time up the Möninger Berg. The tour started from the large car park near the impressive Maria Hilf pilgrimage church, which was completed at the beginning of the 18th century and was also our first highlight of the tour. We continued along the Schwarzach river to the 10 m high bird observation tower for marsh and water birds, which we reached after just a few minutes. The further route then led us to the town of Rohr, from where we started the short climb up the Möninger Berg. Even on the way up there were spectacular views of the surrounding landscape and in good weather you can even see as far as Nuremberg. Once we reached the summit, further highlights awaited us: a small grotto, a short Stations of the Cross and, above all, the beautiful neo-Gothic pilgrimage church of the 14 Holy Helpers. The way back, which was accompanied by a beautiful sunset, then led us through the town of Aßlschwang and along the cycle path back to our starting point at the Maria Hilf pilgrimage church.
