In the protected areas, the loss of nests and young birds due to predators such as foxes and raccoons represents a major threat to the lapwing, while in arable land many broods are destroyed as part of the farming process. HGON activists are countering these particularly great threats to the lapwing at the species' last breeding sites with great effort and in close cooperation with upper and lower nature conservation authorities, forestry offices and the State Bird Observatory. The massive impact of the high density of foxes and raccoons can only be reduced in the short term by erecting protective fences.
