He was the most famous, but also the most controversial businessman of the interwar period. He was a visionary and a skilled money manager. He built an empire. He knew how to invest in the right things and anoint the right people. Malaxa was born in 1884 in Huși. His father, Costache, was a wealthy merchant. His mother came from a family of petty boyars. According to his father, Malaxa was an Aromanian or Pinden, as the inhabitants of the Pindus Mountains are called. The name Malaxa comes from Latin, where it means mixing. In Aromanian, "malaxa" means potter - proof that the tradition of craftsmanship came from afar in the family. Everything that came out of the industrialist's hands and head was superlative: the seamless steel pipe factory, Malaxa Tub, the future Republica plant was, once again, the most modern in Europe. In 1936, the Malaxa Plants produced the first Romanian Diesel locomotive, the most powerful in Europe. The businessman made CFR one of the most modern European transport institutions: by the end of the 1930s, the Romanian Railways no longer purchased any foreign locomotives and were supplied exclusively from Malaxa.
