At the Autotech Future exhibition, we also looked around the Schaeffler stand, where we were most amazed by the structure of the dual-mass dual clutch. This DSG is not simple, that's for sure! The dual-clutch transmission, although automatic, is structurally similar to manual transmissions. A specially designed manual transmission, in which it seems that two 3-4-speed transmissions are pushed into each other, in a common housing, working together. The name DSG (Doppelschaltgetriebe) or DCT (Double Clutch Transmission) refers to a dual-clutch transmission. The dual-clutch transmission was developed jointly by the Volkswagen Group and BorgWarner. The idea is not new, but it could only be implemented in production cars together with electronic control. The DSG is like integrating two transmissions into one. The transmission has two input shafts and an internal clutch each. While one gear is active, the pre-selected gear in the other can be activated at the right moment by opening one clutch and closing the other in parallel.
