Hellebores are extraordinary plants, because they bloom in December, when the entire garden is practically asleep. They also surprise with their flowering time and length - they can bloom for up to 5 months. They are demanding and sometimes you have to work hard with them. They like alkaline, permeable and well-drained soil, but constantly moist. Lots of sun in late autumn, winter and spring, but also a lot of shade in summer. You also have to think carefully about choosing a place for hellebores, because they don't like to be transplanted and all work around the root ball must be done very gently. They like a lot of natural fertilizer - they are real gluttons.
