This will be the team's third year competing in Rally Japan, and the first time for the GR YARIS Rally2. Heikki Kovalainen was competing among the regular WRC2 class drivers who compete around the world, and was showing good performances, even ranking third in his class at one point, but on the final day, in SS17 Nukata1, he went off the track at the same corner where Ott Tänak, who had been in the overall lead in the previous race, had gone off the track, rolled over and crashed, ending this season's Rally Japan. This race gave the team a real sense that drivers and teams can compete on an equal footing in the global WRC2 class, and they also learned a lot about what they need to do. Although the result was disappointing, it shows how a Japanese private team took on the world.
