[ POL-KA: (KA) - B 35, Philippsburg-Huttenheim - Fatal traffic accident 10/31/2015 - 04:54 B 35, Philippsburg-Huttenheim (ots) - A head-on collision occurred on Friday evening at 8:00 p.m. on the B35 between Graben-Neudorf and Germersheim. The 29-year-old driver of a Ford Focus was travelling towards Germersheim when, near Huttenheim, his vehicle veered left into the oncoming lane for reasons unknown. He collided head-on with an oncoming semi-trailer. The truck veered off the road to the right, came to a stop in the field after around 50 metres and caught fire along with its trailer. The 33-year-old truck driver and his 43-year-old passenger - both from Ukraine - were only slightly injured and were able to escape from the burning tractor in time. The tractor burned out completely, and the trailer was also badly damaged. Help came too late for the driver of the Ford Focus. The man from the Germersheim district was trapped in his vehicle by the violent impact and died of his serious injuries at the scene of the accident. The total damage is estimated at around 95,000 euros. Federal Highway 35 had to be closed in both directions for more than ten hours to recover the vehicles and clean the road. A local diversion was set up. The volunteer fire departments of Neudorf, Graben, Philippsburg, Huttenheim, Rheinsheim, Rußheim and Germersheim as well as the German Red Cross sent forces to the scene of the accident.
