In search of copper as well as non-ferrous and precious metals, I am dismantling a large pile of Soviet automatic switches for scrap metal. Silver is contained in the contacts of automatic switches, there are two types, magnetic and non-magnetic with a silver content of 60 to 80%. Dismantling old electric circuit breakers or thermal releases is not an easy task, since the inside of the circuit breaker is in a durable carbolite case and you have to try not only to extract the copper, but even to get the inside of the circuit breaker. It is best to break the carbolite case with a hammer and chisel, so the fragments of the case do not fly apart as much as when you just use a hammer. It is necessary to disassemble all both large and small electric machines, from small ones the yield of non-ferrous metal and silver is certainly not large, but still there is something and in total from a large amount it also turns out not bad. In large thermal releases the catch of copper, brass and silver is certainly huge, however you have to try to sort the metals and separate the contacts from technical silver, the contacts are best soldered with a gas burner. I will say that the result of disassembling pleased me, however I had to work hard, but the metal yield was very good, whole kilograms of copper and brass, tens of kilograms of ferrous metal, hundreds of grams of silver. It's a pity that there is less and less of the Soviet legacy left for disassembling. But if Soviet electrical equipment comes across for disassembling, then there is definitely something to get from it.
