More about lymphedema ⏩ https://bit.ly/Lymphödem_Blog You've probably been suffering from it for a while. You're probably even annoyed by this disease by now: Lymphedema - swollen and thick legs, arms, etc. Lymphedema causes swelling beneath the skin. The doctor then speaks of 'subcutaneous'. This swelling is caused by a blocked drainage of lymph fluid in the lymph vessels and can have various causes. You have to understand: our entire body is criss-crossed with lymphatic vessels. Just as we have arteries and veins everywhere, from top to bottom, etc., the same is true of the lymphatic vessels. And then there are the lymph nodes, which you can sometimes feel. In the video, I explain this system and also show a drawing of the lymphatic vessels and lymph nodes. Lymphedema occurs when these vessels become "blocked" or the drainage no longer works properly. Various causes can lead to a disruption of these transport processes and the lymph fluid does not drain properly. It backs up, which ultimately leads to swelling, usually of the legs. When it comes to the question of causes, you have to distinguish between 2 types of lymphedema: 1. Primary and 2. secondary lymphedema. ❎ Bestseller for back pain - My book THE BACK PAIN BIBLE: https://bit.ly/Rückenschmerzbibel ✅ Primary lymphedema is congenital, and therefore primary. The cause is a developmental disorder of the lymph vessels during pregnancy. Girls are affected in 85 percent of cases, with the first occurrence around the age of 17. So if you got it during puberty, you probably belong to this group. Also important at this point: If lymphedema occurs for the first time after the age of 18, cancer should always be considered as a possible cause. The causes of so-called secondary lymphedema are cancer, operations, but also venous congestion and obesity, i.e. severe overweight. Secondary lymphedema is much more common than primary lymphedema. There are a variety of good treatment options available, some of which are intended to relieve pain while others increase mobility and quality of life. The aim of treatment also depends on the stage of the disease. Basically, the aim is always to stabilize and reduce swelling. A return to stage 0, i.e. a completely symptom-free picture, is only possible in stage 1. So-called “complex physical decongestion therapy” (KPE) is often used. The key components of therapy are diet, lymphatic drainage, exercise and, as a last resort, surgery. ▬ About this channel ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ With “Video Visit Dr. Weigl” you have found the current and medical-scientific channel that describes topics relating to pain, #medicine and #health in an understandable way but based on facts, guidelines and studies.
