THE PRINCE OF PEACE Isaiah 9:5. For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder. And his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. 1. Peace appears in a troubled world. Psalm 6:2, 3. Be merciful to me, O LORD, for I am weak; Heal me, O LORD, for my bones tremble. 3 My soul also is greatly troubled: And thou, O LORD, how long? Luke 1:78, 79. (Zechariah's Song of Praise) 78 Because of the compassion of our God, and the sun has come upon us from on high, to shine on those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. Luke 2:14. Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men. Mark 4:35-41. A stormy sea. 40, 41 And he said to them, Why are you afraid? have you no faith? 41 And they were exceedingly afraid, and said to one another, Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him? 2. True peace comes from God John 14:27. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. 1 Thessalonians 5:3. When they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. Matthew 10:34. Think not that I am come to send peace on the earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. Hebrews 12:11. No chastening seemeth for the present to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are trained thereby. Jeremiah 33:6. Behold, I will give them strength, and heal them: I will heal them, and will show them the abundance of peace and truth. Psalm 4:8. (David) I will both lie down and sleep in peace, O LORD: I will not sleep, neither will I sleep. For He alone will make me dwell in safety. Genesis 28:20, 21. And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat and raiment to put on, 21 and I come again to my father's house in peace, then the LORD shall be my God. Genesis 32:6-8. And the messengers returned and told Jacob, saying, We went to your brother Esau; and, behold, he is coming to meet you, and he and four hundred men with him. 7 And Jacob was very afraid and distressed; and he divided the people who were with him, and the flocks, and the herds, and the camels, into two companies, saying, 8 If Esau comes and attacks one company, the other company shall escape. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, shall guard your hearts and your minds through Christ Jesus. Jeremiah 29:11. For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. John 14:1. Let not your heart be troubled: for I know the thoughts that I think toward you. Believe in God, believe also in me.
