Yeosu Gukdong Port, which has entered the full-fledged hairtail season, is crowded with people trying to board hairtail fishing boats. Hairtail fishing peaks in the dark of night, following the hairtail's habit of staying deep under the water during the day and coming up to feed at night. Therefore, hairtail fishing boats gather people starting in the afternoon. Among them, the person who attracts the most attention is Jeong Jong-gi, who is known as the 'Hairtail King' in Yeosu. He is a hairtail fishing expert who catches 9 to 10 hairtails at once with one cast of his fishing rod. We departed from Yeosu Gukdong Port to catch hairtail and arrived at Baekdo, which has beautiful scenery and a well-developed hairtail fishing ground, after about 2 hours and 30 minutes. As soon as we arrived at the point, people started to move busily. The peak time for hairtail fishing is from the time the sun sets and the boat lights come on. As the hairtail begins to bite, Jeong Jong-gi’s eyes change. Hairtail fishing, which uses a line with multiple hooks, originally uses finely chopped mackerel as bait, but small hairtail called “pulchi” is also a good bait for catching hairtail with larger roe. Unlike the hairtail caught with a net, whose scales are damaged, the hairtail caught with a line has silver scales and bodies that are not damaged, so it is called silver hairtail. Hairtail fishing continues without a moment to sit down and eat. As they catch several hairtails at a time, the icebox begins to pile up with hairtail. However, it is past dawn. Due to a strong wind advisory, the boat turns around earlier than usual and returns to the port. After the hairtail fishing, Jeong Jong-gi heads to a restaurant near the port. The father goes out to the sea every day to catch hairtail, and the son makes food with the hairtail his father catches.
