It is one of the hundreds, and it was said that it is one of the pairs. It has 99 verses, and its order in the Qur’an is 15, in the fourteenth part. It was revealed after Surat Yusuf. It begins with the disconnected letters Alif, Lam, These are the verses of The Book and a clear Qur’an, and Al-Hijr are the dwellings of Thamud, the people of Salih, known in ancient times as the city of Al-Hijr. Beginning with that implicit warning wrapped in terror, “Perhaps those who disbelieve would wish that they were Muslims,” and ending with the fact that the deniers only lie out of stubbornness, not out of a lack of evidence of faith, “And if We were to open to them a gate from heaven and they continued therein to ascend, they would surely say, ‘Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people bewitched,’” and that they are all of the same type: “And We had certainly sent before you among the sects of the former peoples, and there came not to them a messenger except that they were with him.” They mock. Thus do We cause it to enter the hearts of the criminals. They will not believe in it. And the way of the former peoples has passed away. The second round presents some of God’s signs in the universe: in the heavens and on the earth and in between. And We have certainly placed in the heaven great stars and have beautified it for the observers and have protected it from every accursed devil, except for one who steals a hearing, and a clear flame pursues him. And the earth We have spread out, and have cast therein firm mountains, and have caused to grow therein of every well-balanced thing, and We have made for you therein means of livelihood, and for those for whom you are not providers. And there is not a thing but that with Us are its depositories. And We do not send it down except in a known measure. And We send the winds as a means of fertilization, and We send down water from the sky, and We give it to you to drink, and you are not its keepers. And to God is the return of everything and everyone in the time and the known measure. And indeed, it is We who bring to life and cause to die, and We are the inheritors. And We have certainly known those among you who go forward, and We have certainly known those who lag behind. And indeed, your Lord will gather them. Indeed, He is Wise and Knowing. The third round presents the story of humanity and the origin of guidance and misguidance in its composition and original causes, and the ultimate fate of the misguided and the guided. This is in the creation of Adam from clay from aged black mud and the breathing of God’s spirit into this clay. Then in the arrogance and haughtiness of Satan and his turning away from the misguided and away from the sincere. The fourth round is about the fates of the people of Lot, Shu`ayb and Salih. Inform My servants that I am the Forgiving, the Most Merciful, and that My punishment is the most painful punishment. Then the stories continue, revealing God’s mercy with Abraham and Lot, and His punishment for the people of Lot, Shu`ayb and Salih. It is noteworthy in this story that it shows the Quraysh the fates of people who pass through their land on their way to Syria and see their traces. As for the fifth and final round, it reveals the truth inherent in the creation of the heavens and the earth, which is associated with the Hour and what comes after it of reward and punishment, connected to the call of the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, for it is the greatest truth that encompasses the entire universe, and the beginning and the destiny: “And We did not create the heavens and the earth and all that is between them except in truth. And indeed, the Hour will come.” ✍🏼 Al-Hafiz Ibn Rajab, may Allah have mercy on him, said: 🌾 And seeking forgiveness is asking for forgiveness, and forgiveness is protecting against the evil of sins while covering them up. Seeking forgiveness is often coupled with mentioning repentance. 🌾 So seeking forgiveness is then an expression of seeking forgiveness with the tongue, and repentance is an expression of ceasing sins with the hearts and limbs. 🌾 Al-Hasan said: Increase your seeking of forgiveness in your homes, at your tables, on your roads, in your markets, and in your gatherings wherever you are, for you do not know when Forgiveness descends.
