HASSELBLAD: MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR In one of my last videos I dealt with choosing the most suitable Hasselblad camera ( • GUIDE TO CHOOSING A HASSELBLAD A ... ), that is, the one that can still be perfectly repaired today. Today, together with Sandro Presta, I propose a more original video: the disassembly, overhaul and re-phased of a Hasselblad 500C/M body. We “laymen” see our beloved cameras from the outside and do not realize the incredible mechanical complications that preceded and partly assisted the advent of electronics. The positive note is that, except in impossible cases, even today everything can be repaired and can work, after an appropriate overhaul. We are also fortunate to still have several laboratories in Italy, like Sandro Presta's, capable of providing an excellent service - I remind you that Sandro Presta currently overhauls and repairs only cameras, magazines and medium format lenses. Personally, I have lived, as in the repair of a Rolleiflex, an incredible experience: seeing a camera disassembled in every part and put back in phase to perfection is almost a privilege. It is a "long" video and only concerns the phasing of the camera body but it was not possible to omit any detail, because at these levels more than talking about craftsmanship we should talk about art, made of decades of experience and documentation. I therefore urge you to watch this work until the end, it is worth it, I assure you. Enjoy the viewing Gerardo Bonomo I thank Sandro Presta for the time he wanted to dedicate to me and Franco Ferloni who brilliantly assisted me in the video shooting. 00:00 Introduction 02:24 Dismantling a 500C/M 06:56 The body of the 500C/M chassis 08:05 Proof of a previous correct reassembly: the lacquer 10:36 Removing the front plate 17:17 Ultrasonic cleaning of the components 22:12 Start of reassembly 23:05 Lubrication 25:52 Reassembly and timing of the front plate 28:29 Reassembly of the rear plate 28:56 Reassembly 33:36 The moment of truth 35:08 Replacing the focusing screen frame gaskets 38:46 Checking assembly tolerances 39:45 Checking the flatness of the lens bayonet 41:02 Lacquering the head of the tightened screws 44:15 The final checks 44:51 Checking the mirror tilt 46:12 Checking the camera body collimations 46:35 Checking the collimation focus screen 47:04 End of work 47:22 Conclusions If you are interested in a one to one course, from shooting to printing, including development, contact me: [email protected] My videos and articles are accessible to everyone and free of charge.
