In a debate with philosopher Bijan Abdolkarimi at the Clubhouse, sociologist Hassan Mohaddisi described the revolutionary discourse as having characteristics such as anti-development and anti-Western. He believes that Abdolkarimi, as soon as he opposes intellectuals, accuses them of Westernization and considers this approach incorrect. Referring to his extensive studies on the works of Iranian intellectuals, Mohaddisi clarified that these intellectuals are neither Westernized nor anti-Western. From his perspective, Iranian intellectuals are trying to maintain their independent and indigenous identity while facing modernity. In contrast, Bijan Abdolkarimi defended his position, stating that he was the first person to stand up to religious sciences with a loud voice on Islamic Republic Television in 2008 and put forward his views.
