Atrial fibrillation is a serious cardiac arrhythmia affecting over 1.8 million people in Germany. If unnoticed and untreated, it can become life-threatening and even lead to heart failure and stroke. Prof. Meinertz explains the important distinction between harmless extra beats (extrasystoles) and atrial fibrillation, which only a doctor can reliably diagnose using an ECG.
